DAPL Shutdown Rally in Washington D.C. on June 11th
Standing Rock and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribes Call for Solidarity to Protect Water, Land, and Indigenous Rights
WHAT: Indigenous leaders, grassroots organizations, and allies are expected to gather in Washington D.C. for the Shutdown DAPL Rally, calling on President Biden and the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) to immediately shut down the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) and revoke all permits. People are coming together to amplify the voices of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, whose lands and water sources are threatened by the pipeline.
WHEN: June 11th, 2024 12:00 PM-1:00 PM
WHERE: In front of the White House (Pennsylvania Avenue NW)
WHY: The rally advocates for the protection of sacred lands, water sources, and Indigenous rights, and to demand that the ACOE choose the "No Action Alternative #2" in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) deliberation this year, which would result in the shutdown and capping of the pipeline at the crossing of Lake Oahe. Lawmakers have so far ignored the tribe's Free, Prior, and Informed Consent, which is vital in the decision-making process.
VISUALS: Indigenous leaders, Elders, and Youth from Standing Rock and Cheyenne River, along with grassroots organizations and allies, will gather for a powerful demonstration, carrying banners, signs, and traditional regalia.
