Climate Week - Mukwa

I am excited to share with you that Mukwa was able to attend this years’ Climate Week in New York City this past week. We weren’t able to send our full delegation yet with the gracious support from our relatives over at the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, the Indigenous Environmental Network and our grassroots supporters.

On Wednesday we attended an event celebrating Women on the Frontlines of the Climate Crisis. The powerful love and care each person brought was astounding.

From Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador to Oklahoma Ponca, Chippewa, and Canada, women who are devoted to aid for the people and caretaking for the land and water shared their passion through beautiful truth and song. The connections we made were precious. Our sibling Journey found a new Grandmother in Casey Camp-Horinek! ☺️💕

We want to uplift the NoDAPL Grassroots Coalition members bringing representation that the Dakota Access Pipeline is running illegally.

To close our week in New York City alongside so many climate leaders, we stood together in loving action with Indigenous leaders from Mexico and the Amazon, and Debt for Climate. At the BlackRock headquarters, we told them how to get it right, and brought the communities that pay the price for their extractive ways to their doorstep. It's time we take responsibility for our impact on Mother Earth, and Mukwa was honored to connect with more caring spirits in our struggle for health and reciprocity.

We have had an amazing trip, it's been the honor my lifetime to be with Charlotte, Journey and Robert for this year's climate week. The final two days of our trip were absolutely fantastic.

A profound thank you from us to the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the Indigenous Environmental Network for the funding to make this empowering trip happen.

Miigwech! And onward to justice for the climate and its peoples.
